藤塚松星

Fujitsuka Shosei

Fujitsuka Shōsei (b. 1949) The technique Fujitsuka invented, “Iro-Henge”, uses bamboo strips with triangular cross sections, and by painting each side a different color, the color changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. This unique technique adds dynamic beauty to three-dimensional works such as flower baskets, widening the range of expression in “bamboo craft”, which combines craft techniques and art. After working for a record company and a telescope manufacturer, and since he had seen works of woodwork, he sought a way to learn this art to make his profession and was introduced to his master, Baba Shodo.
