Koda Yoshio (b. 1929) isa Living National Treasure in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, a master of the Seiko Sendaihira technique, a traditional method for silk textile passed down through generations. Trained by his father, Eisuke, he took over the family business in 1970 and has since dedicated himself for preserving and refining the craft. Known for the distinctive “wet weft” technique, Koda creates tight, tensioned weaves using water-soaked, untwisted weft threads. His marbled striped fabrics combine traditional design with modern appeal, earning recognition for their exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
