Komori Kunie (b. 1945) Born in Wajima City, Komori first learned chinkin, the decorative technique of lacquer art. And then studied urushi at the Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima Lacquer Art Technical Training Center, learning them agewa-zukuri technique from Akaji Yusai and the rantai technique from Ota Hitoshi. He continued to study and refine his own lacquer technique, which combines the techniques of magewa-zukuri and rantai to shape the base, and he mastered a unique technique to a high degree. Komori performs all process of production himself, from obtaining the materials for the base to applying the finishing coat. His meticulously crafted lacquerwares reflect a fusion of traditional joinery techniques and aesthetic finesse.
