Ōtani Hayato

大谷早人

Otani Hayato bowl and lid

Ōtani Hayato (b. 1954) was born in Kagawa prefecture, where a long history of Kagawa lacquerware employs rantai lacquer and kinma carving techniques in his native Kagawa lacquerware style. His designs are inspired by motifs from the nature, incorporating gradations of colors to represent the beauty and depict serene landscapes and natural scenes like sunsets and boats. His artistic expressions are rooted in traditional methods, yet they capture the ephemeral beauty of the natural world.
