Sasaki Sonoko textile

Sasaki Sonoko (b. 1939) studied plain weave, stripe, and checkered techniques at a tsumugi studio in Shizuoka Prefecture, then mastered e-gasuri techniques, focusing on curved lines, in Tottori and Shimane Prefectures. She creats intricate designs inspired by natural motifs like birds, flowers, and the moon, expressed through delicate ikat patterns using tsumugi thread dyed with vegetable dyes. Sasaki transformed traditional patterns into highly artistic tsumugi weaving, using lustrous silk threads.
