Tsuchiya Yoshinori kimono

Tsuchiya Yoshinori (b. 1954) was born in Gifu Prefecture. Interested in natural plant dyes, Tsuchiya studied silk weaving under Shimura Fukumi (b. 1924 Living National Treasure) in Kyoto. After working together for nearly four years, he established his studio back in his hometown of Seki, where he began producing Kasuri weaving and raw silk woven with plant-dyed threads. In 2010, he was designated a title of Living National Treasure in the category of textile for “Monsha”.
