The Metropolitan Museum of Art: Donation of 18 sophisticated metalworks to be included in 'Japan: A History of Style' Exhibit

As part of The Met’s 2020 Collections Initiative celebrating the Museum’s 150 the anniversary, the Met received a generous gift of 18 exquisite metalworks to be displayed within the exhibit, “Japan: A History of Style”. All pieces showcase an extremely fine attention to detail, precision and dedication to presenting the unique qualities of metal. Nine of the pieces are by artists designated as “Living National Treasures” by the Japanese Government, with an additional nine works by notable contemporary artists that are celebrated for their innovative and expressive techniques. The exhibit celebrates how gifts and acquisitions over the last decade have transformed The Met’s ability to narrate the story of Japanese culture and art.
