Contemporary Metal and Lacquer from Japan

KOGEI USA's new traveling exhibition, "North American Museum Tour, KOGEI Exhibition: Metalwork and Lacquerware," which will kick off at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in February 2027, will focus on metalwork and lacquerware, two crafts that are little known in the West. This exhibition will actively encourage the participation of young craft artists who will lead the future of Japanese crafts, focusing on Living National Treasures (Intangible Important Cultural Property) artists who have been publicly recognized by the Japanese government for their lifetime achievements. The exhibited works will be stored as permanent collections at each of the museums the exhibition will travel to, and will be supported by supporters of KOGEI USA in Japan and the West. During the exhibition, we plan to hold cultural events such as lectures and demonstrations by inviting craft artists from Japan together with curators and art critics from the museums the exhibition will visit.
